PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

The persistent attack by bandits on Rural areas in Nigeria (and Benue state in particular) has provided the necessary but less funded creation of new and smaller sites for the internally displaced individuals (IDP -CAMPS).

The rising medical needs for internally displaced individuals further worsens the findings from the statistics on the Individual infected and /or living with sexually transmitted diseases, suffering from Malaria, peptic ulcer disease, hypertension, Schistosomiasis , among other diseases in Benue State.

The health challenges faced by internally displaced individuals can not be over-emphasized as they struggle with shelter, feeding and yet have poor access to portable water and medical care.

They harbor filaria parasites and Schistosoma spp ova causing them Schistosomiasis and filariasis which are one of the leading causes to limb deformity (filariasis) and badder cancer in Africa (Schistosomiasis)

These common, yet curable disease eat a lot of them in silence because of poverty, stigma and superstitions discouraging them from seeking help from professionals and increasing their access to quack for solutions; hence the transformation into chronic and complicated states or even death.

MY PROJECT WILL INVOLVE PROVIDING HEALTH SOLUTIONS FOR:

1. SCHISTOSOMIASIS :- Diagnosis, treatments and prophylaxis

2.FILARIASIS :- treatment of uncomplicated cases and prophylaxis

My project will entail:

#1. A hand held printed picture-aided presentation on the above diseases highlighting complicated states and features in interesting cases

#2. Provision of medical and pharmaceutical solution for them.

#3. Diagnosis And treatment of life threatening illnesses found on camp

#4. Diagnosis and prescription for other medical conditions

#5. Supervision of thorough cleaning, washing and disinfection of Toilet

#6. Photo sessions during and after exercise.

LOCATION OF PROPOSED PROJECT.

IDP-CAMP, Makurdi Toll Gate Agan. Makurdi. Benue State.

This is one out of the three internally displaced individuals - CAMP created within north-bank Makurdi, Benue State.

This site contains about 800-1,000 displaced individuals and mostly Harbor women of reproductive age, older women and children.

HOW FUNDS WILL BE SPENT:

#1. Mobilisation to area of project.

#2. Purchase of Ivermectin for filariasis

#3. Purchase of Prazequantel for Schistosomiasis

#5. Purchase of systemic steroids tablets.

TARGET POPULATION = 600 PERSONS (MOSTLY WOMEN AND CHILDREN)

Total personnel participating (MEDICAL TEAM) = 2-4 persons

Total days for exercise. = 2days

Cost of Mobilization and Feeding of Medical Team =$10.00

Total cost for drugs. =[$290.00]

GAIN FROM PROJECT.

#1. Reaching out to the internally displaced individuals (IDP) would really give me a sense of fulfillment

#2. Building the required profile and history to someday run a future non governmental aid organization where I can access aid / relief for people with greater need.

#3. Being able to contribute to research work from data collected to share with the world.
