1. Introduction
The project aimed to establish a shoe-making shop in N'Djamena that transforms expired used car tyres into durable footwear. Additionally, the initiative focused on empowering young boys through skills training in shoe-making, fostering self-reliance and promoting sustainable practices.
2. Objectives
● To create a sustainable shoe-making business using recycled materials.
● To provide skills training to humanist young boys in the community.
● To raise awareness about environmental sustainability through recycling.
3. Activities Undertaken
3.1. Setup of the Shoe-Making Shop
● Location: We Secured a small workspace in a community area to attract local participation.
● Materials: Utilized the budget to purchase necessary tools and materials, including cutting tools, adhesives, and basic safety equipment.
3.2. Training Program
● Recruitment: We Engaged local young boys interested in learning the trade.
● Curriculum Development: Developed a curriculum focusing on shoe design, material handling, and production techniques.
● Training Sessions: Conducted hands-on workshops twice a week over two months now.
3.3. Production of Shoes
● Prototype Development: Created initial prototypes of shoes from collected tyres.
● Community Sales: Set up a small market stall to sell the produced footwear, gaining initial traction among locals.
4. Achievements
● Sustainable Business Established: Successfully set up the shoe-making shop, which is now operational and producing shoes.
● Skill Development: Trained 32 young boys in shoe-making techniques, providing them with valuable skills for future employment.
● Environmental Impact: Recycled over 50 used car tyres, reducing waste and promoting eco-friendly practices in the community.
5. Challenges Encountered
