What does humanism mean to your group?
I (Esther Gyimah) grew up in a devout Christian family in Ghana, where faith was woven into the fabric of daily life. But as I ventured into the world beyond my community, I found herself questioning the beliefs I had held so dearly. Intrigued by the perspectives of renowned atheists and humanists, I delved into their works with an open mind. Through the writings of thinkers like Richard Dawkins, Bertrand Russell, and Ayaan Hirsi Ali, I discovered a profound liberation in their arguments for reason, science, and humanism. Their eloquent critiques of religion's role in society resonated deeply with my own experiences and observations. With each page turned, I felt the weight of dogma lifting from my shoulders, replaced by a sense of empowerment and intellectual freedom.
Embracing humanism and atheism, I found solace in the beauty of the natural world and the boundless potential of humanity, charting my own path with courage and conviction. Humanism for me and my group means that Humanists are accountable to humanity, not to a deity. We give our lives meaning through how we live them. We reject violence as a means to spread beliefs. Humanism respects people, not ideas.

Project Description
The Humanist Women of Takoradi are a group of dynamic and resourceful women who have demonstrated incredible resilience in their pursuit of education, empowerment, and entrepreneurship. However, access to reliable and affordable electricity and digital resources remains one of the greatest barriers to their full participation in the digital economy. To address this gap and further enhance the capacity of these women, we are proposing a project aimed at setting up a dedicated computer center for the Humanist Women of Takoradi.
This initiative will equip them with the necessary resources to enhance their digital literacy, access online education, engage in digital marketing, and manage their virtual businesses. The computer center will serve as a hub where they can work on various digital tasks, access educational materials, and connect with clients globally. This project aims to foster a safe and productive environment where the women can hone their skills in technology and entrepreneurship.
A key aspect of this proposal is to ensure the sustainability of the center, particularly given the challenges of inconsistent electricity supply in the region. By integrating solar panels into the center’s setup, we will provide a reliable and cost-effective energy solution. This will not only guarantee the consistent operation of the computer center but will also reduce long-term operational costs associated with electricity.
The total budget for this project is $300, which will cover the costs for renting the space, purchasing solar panels, and setting up the computer center. This budget is designed to ensure the smooth launch and operation of the center while laying the foundation for future expansion.
Project Goals:
1. To create a dedicated computer center that will provide Humanist Women in Takoradi with the tools and resources to improve their digital skills and access online opportunities.
2. To provide reliable solar energy for the center, ensuring consistent and cost-effective electricity to power computers and other electronic devices.
3. To enable the women to access education, work remotely, and run digital businesses that will increase their economic independence and empowerment.
Target Audience:
● The Humanist Women group in Takoradi, comprising women who are interested in enhancing their digital literacy, seeking employment opportunities in the digital economy, and those already running small businesses online.
The establishment of a computer center for the Humanist Women of Takoradi will provide them with the tools and resources needed to succeed in the digital economy. By integrating a solar panel system into the project, we are ensuring the long-term sustainability of the center and reducing its dependency on unreliable grid electricity. This initiative will empower these women to pursue digital education, engage in online work, and grow their businesses.
With a modest budget of $300, this project will make a profound impact on the lives of these women, equipping them with valuable skills and the resources they need to thrive in today’s technology-driven world. We look forward to the successful implementation of this project and to the positive outcomes it will bring to the community of Humanist Women in Takoradi.
