Why did your group become humanist and what does humanism mean to your group?
We are a group of young boys and girls embarking on a transformative journey, driven by a deep longing for a more compassionate and just world. As we struggle with the troubles of growing up in a region marked by poverty, inequality, and limited opportunities, we are finding solace in the principles of humanism. Humanism to us is illuminating a path forward, guiding us to embrace the power of reason, science, and critical thinking. This our newfound understanding is empowering us to challenge harmful traditions and beliefs, and to instead cultivate a culture of inclusivity, empathy, and love.
As we gather together, sharing stories and experiences, we are forming a community that is unapologetically committed to the values of humanism. We are learning to see the good in each other, and to recognize the inherent worth and dignity of every individual. In our local community, We gradually are discovering that humanism is not just a philosophy, but a way of life - a call to live with intention, purpose, and compassion. And as we embark on this journey together, we are becoming the change we wish to see in the world, creating a brighter future for Ourselves and for generations to come.
Our local group of boys and girls in Mao, Chad is embracing humanism and also applying as a partner to HuMAN as a response to the social, economic, and cultural challenges we face in their daily lives.
Growing up in a region affected by poverty, inequality, and limited access to education and opportunities, We are seeking a values-based approach that emphasizes:
1. Empowerment: Humanism offers a framework for self-empowerment, encouraging individuals to take control of our lives and create positive change.
2. Critical thinking: Humanism promotes critical thinking, helping us question traditional beliefs and practices that may perpetuate inequality and injustice.
3. Inclusivity: Humanism values diversity and promotes inclusivity, providing a sense of belonging and acceptance for individuals from diverse backgrounds.
4. Reason and science: Humanism encourages the use of reason and science to address problems, rather than relying on superstition or dogma.
5. Compassion and empathy: Humanism fosters compassion and empathy, helping us build stronger, more supportive communities. By embracing humanism, our local group is seeking to create a more just, equitable, and compassionate society, where individuals can thrive and reach their full potential.
Project Description
Mao Sara faces limited access to reliable electricity, which hampers the ability of young people to stay connected and access educational resources. The youth in this area often struggle to charge their devices, limiting their opportunities for learning, collaboration, and civic participation. As the humanist community grows, it becomes increasingly important to provide resources that foster connectivity and support the development of critical thinking, dialogue, and shared values. A solar-powered charging station will serve as a focal point for young people to gather, learn, and engage with one another.
The proposed project aims to establish a small solar-powered charging station in Mao Sara, Chad, to provide young people with access to electricity for charging their mobile devices. This initiative will empower the local humanist community, enabling better communication, educational opportunities, and community engagement. By harnessing renewable solar energy, we seek to promote sustainability and self-reliance among the youth in this region.
Project Plan
• Site Selection: Identify a safe and accessible location within Mao Sara for the charging station.
• Equipment Purchase: Acquire solar panels, batteries, charging units, and necessary installation materials.
• Installation: Collaborate with local technicians to set up the solar charging station.
• Community Training: Host workshops to educate young people on the use of the charging station and the importance of renewable energy.
• Monitoring and Evaluation: Assess the usage of the station and gather feedback from the community to ensure its ongoing relevance and effectiveness.
This solar-powered charging station will significantly benefit the young humanist community in Mao Sara by providing a vital resource for connectivity and engagement. With your support, we can empower the next generation of leaders in Chad, fostering a culture of dialogue, education, and sustainability. Thank you for considering our proposal. We look forward to the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in our community.
