Appalachian Community Meal Program

Funding provided by Humanist Mutual Aid Network has enabled the Appalachian Community Meal Program (ACM) to significantly impact the Berea, Kentucky community, one of the United States' poorest regions, driven by poverty rates 25% higher than the national average, a public health crisis, and ongoing economic and material deprivation. The projects funded by HuMAN are the Free Community Meals and the Free Food Pantries, plus NarCan and Plan B distribution.

Humanist Mutual Aid Network has been vital in advancing ACM's mission to support the Berea community. The Free Community Meals and Free Food Pantries have effectively addressed critical needs and demonstrated a high level of community engagement. One of the most heartening impacts of these two projects has been the way they support the formation of satisfying emotional connections for Bereans. We hear over and over at events that ACM is relieving people’s experiences of social isolation, for which they express deep gratitude.
